Downtown San Jose visit activity soars, Oakland jumps, San Francisco nosedives

During the year-long period ending in March, visits to downtown San Jose jumped 28.2%, ranking 8th best in North America, while Oakland saw a 20.6% increase, ranking 16th best. In contrast, San Francisco experienced a 21.6% decrease, the worst among the 64 cities surveyed by the University of Toronto report.
The rise in visits to downtown San Jose is attributed to the emergence of unique businesses, leading to more entrepreneurs taking risks, post the pandemic. The lifting of business shutdowns caused by COVID-19 helped foster new business formations in San Jose and across California.
