Despite reaching an agreement earlier this year, the Inner Sunset sports bar Blackthorn has permanently closed after a prolonged legal battle with its landlord.
Co-owner David Zimmerman revealed that they lost a legal battle with landlord Brendan McGrath, which led to their quick eviction, following a long-standing presence in the neighborhood.
Zimmerman noted the closure's abruptness surprised many regular patrons who had frequented Blackthorn for decades, reflecting the bar's long-standing community ties.
The court ruled in favor of McGrath Enterprises, requiring Blackthorn to pay substantial damages and legal fees, marking the end of its 31-year operation.
