Ukraine adopts historic' law to ban Moscow-linked Orthodox Church
Briefly

Lawmaker Iryna Herashchenko stated, 'This is a historic vote. Parliament approved legislation which bans a branch of the aggressor country in Ukraine.' This reflects a significant national security concern regarding religious affiliations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the law as a means to enhance spiritual independence, emphasizing the importance of Ukraine's sovereignty over religious practices and structures amidst ongoing conflict.
The UOC's spokesman, Metropolitan Klyment, defended the church's integrity against accusations, asserting 'the church had no links with foreign centers' and described the legislation as targeting its properties.
Following the legislative decision, Russian authorities condemned the law, arguing that it was a severe attack on Orthodoxy, with officials labeling the bill illegal and a manifestation of hostility.
