When the competitors line up at the start of the women's elite road race at the Paris Olympic Games on August 4, it will be 40 years since the first-ever event took place in Los Angeles in 1984...There will be equal numbers of male and female competitors - 90 riders in each road race...A record nine African women will take part...and a total of fourteen will compete...
