Train drivers could make fresh pay demands six months after offer, says Aslef chief
Briefly

The settlement being voted on by Aslef members includes three pay increases from 2019 to 2025, raising the average train driver's salary from $60,000 to $69,000, along with an immediate payment of $6,000 in back wages.
Aslef's general secretary Mick Whelan noted, although the new pay deal might address past grievances, it still doesn't resolve ongoing concerns about pay and conditions amid the broader cost-of-living crisis.
Whelan expressed optimism about the deal being accepted by train drivers, stating, "I believe this will go through," but also indicated that the union could renegotiate in six months if necessary.
He remarked on the Labour government's positive role in the negotiations, saying, "We finally have a new government that listens and wants to make the railway work for staff, passengers, and the taxpayer."
