The tactics employed by the district attorney’s office have prioritized swift deportation over the due process rights of individuals facing drug-related charges, undermining justice.
There is no due process being given to this individual. It is about putting that person on a fast track to deportation, and that’s the practice we’re seeing.
This tactic has resulted in the double victimization of some of our immigrant clients who are merely victims of labor trafficking being arrested for drug-related offenses.
The public defender's office recently won a case in which a Honduran immigrant, forced into drug dealing through human trafficking, had all charges against him dropped.
