Frederic Leighton's only known painting of moon over water to go on show after being lost for a century
Briefly

Frederic Leighton, the distinguished artist of the late 19th century, preferred painting landscapes, with his cherished painting Bay of Cadiz, Moonlight reflecting his fascination with moonlight and the sea's beauty.
Despite Leighton House Museum's extensive search for the long-lost Bay of Cadiz, Moonlight, which he adored and corresponds about, it has only recently resurfaced, showcasing its historical significance.
Leighton's correspondence reveals his deep appreciation for the moonlight and nocturnal beauty, highlighting his emotional connections to his landscapes and the Italian vistas he cherished during his travels.
After Leighton's death, many of his landscapes were sold, with four important works, including Bay of Cadiz, Moonlight, purchased by art collector Wickham Flower, linking the painting to its storied past.
