The tests mimicked children pulling out drawers and the federal Sturdy Act requires unanchored dressers to stay upright for at least 10 seconds with a weight from an open drawer.
Crystal Ellis, an advocate and mother whose child died in a tip-over, criticized retailers for their leniency in selling older dressers despite the new safety standards.
Gabe Knight from Consumer Reports urged retailers to establish a timeline to only sell dressers that comply with the updated tip-over safety regulations.
