A Leak of Biometric Police Data Is a Sign of Things to Come

Last month, security researcher Jeremiah Fowler spotted the sensitive files on an exposed web server linked to ThoughtGreen Technologies, containing a mine of personal information about law enforcement officials and other individuals in India.
Fowler highlighted the risks associated with companies collecting and storing biometric data, emphasizing the critical nature of such data like fingerprints and facial images, which if leaked, pose severe risks of misuse by cybercriminals.
"You can change your name, you can change your bank information, but you can't change your actual biometrics," Fowler points out, stressing the irreplaceable nature of biometric data and the increased risks it poses, particularly for law enforcement personnel.
