I take issue with Goodell's comments as a sign of the disconnect between the league and its fans who don't want the shorter preseason. Goodell's pushing of an 18-game schedule is met with little enthusiasm from fans.
The move to reduce the preseason to just two games is unpopular as it minimizes opportunities for players to showcase skills, especially rookies and players on the roster bubble. Fans prefer the original four-game preseason format.
