World War II-era ship docked in Alameda testing tool to combat global warming
Briefly

A team of scientists is testing the concept of cloud brightening by launching salt water droplets from a decommissioned aircraft carrier to study if it can reflect more sunlight and reduce excess heat reaching the Earth's surface.
The program, called Marine Cloud Brightening, involves collaboration between University of Washington, Stanford Research Institute, and SilverLining to test John Latham's idea proposed in 1990 outside the lab on the USS Hornet in real atmospheric conditions.
Kelly Wanser from SilverLining expressed admiration for the unique collaboration and the combination of science, history, engineering, and human innovation at the USS Hornet selected for testing cloud brightening technology.
The USS Hornet, an 80-year-old aircraft carrier turned museum with a rich history from World War II through the Cold War and Vietnam War, now serves as the testing site for this innovative climate change countermeasure.
