Experts are still trying to understand what early humans consumed in the millennia before farming. A team of researchers in France, Germany, the U.K., and Morocco analyzed teeth and bone remnants from Iberomaurusians in North Africa, revealing a plant-rich diet before the advent of agriculture.
"In Europe, what we see usually is that hunter-gatherers were eating a lot of meat or fish," says Klervia Jaouen, a senior author of the study. The study challenges assumptions by showcasing a different dietary pattern in North Africa.
