The Sun Is Experiencing a 'Potentially Historic' Eruption - With Possible Serious Consequences for Earth
Briefly

At least seven expulsions, called coronal mass ejections, are expected to come our way. The torrent the Sun released prompted the first severe geomagnetic storm watch from NOAA in two decades.
The cascade of charged particles is from an active region on the Sun 16 times greater than Earth. Additional activity is still expected from this region as per NOAA.
Geomagnetic storm watch can disrupt GPS, communications, power grids, and pose risks to astronauts. However, it may also lead to spectacular auroras even in lower latitudes like Alabama and Northern California.
