Richard "Rick" Slayman was the first person to receive a genetically modified pig kidney. The transplant was successful initially but later showed signs of rejection. Despite treatment, Slayman sadly passed away almost two months after the groundbreaking procedure.
Slayman, who faced complications with dialysis, saw the pig kidney transplant not just as personal assistance but also as a source of hope for the numerous individuals awaiting organ transplants.
