Sycamore Gap saplings to be gifted to mark anniversary
Briefly

Andrew Poad, General Manager for the National Trust's Hadrian Wall properties, expressed that the past year has been filled with grief and helplessness due to the illegal felling of the Sycamore Gap tree. He emphasized how the community shared stories of the tree's significance in their lives and highlighted that one of the most impactful responses was collecting seeds from the tree, which were sent to the Trust's Plant Conservation Centre for future growth.
The National Trust has provided an opportunity for communities across Britain to apply for a sapling from the iconic Sycamore Gap tree, marking its first anniversary after its illegal felling. A total of 49 saplings have been cultivated from seeds collected shortly after the tree's destruction, representing one foot for each foot of the original tree's height at the time it was cut down, symbolizing hope and renewal.
