Around 300,000 years after their arrival, the descendants of Homo erectus on Flores, who were about the same height as modern humans, had become dwarfs, measuring one meter in height, with small brains, but still possessing the ability to make tools.
Researchers found jaw fragments and teeth dating back 700,000 years in Mata Menge, indicating smaller ancestors of Homo floresiensis. This discovery suggested that all individuals, ancient and recent, came from the same exploratory species that gradually reduced in size.
