One of the rarest possible sightings in Monterey Bay, California is that of a sperm whale, known for lengthy deep dives, recently spotted for the first time in nearly eight years by Monterey Bay Whale Watch.
Sperm whales, the largest toothed predator on Earth, are endangered largely due to being a popular target for commercial whaling, and can hold their breath for over an hour while diving 2,000-10,000 feet for food.
