Hiking trail and nature reserve close in Hawaii amid volcano eruption
Briefly

Kahaualea Natural Area Reserve and the Kahaualea Trail are closed for at least 90 days due to the recent eruption of Kilauea volcano, which poses harmful gas hazards.
Phillips stated that the emissions from the eruption, primarily sulfur dioxide, could mix with smoke from burning vegetation, creating a dangerous environment for visitors.
The eruption, which began on Sept. 15, has seen ongoing lava activity covering over two-thirds of the crater's area, marking the second eruption this year.
Although the volcano is erupting fiercely and producing toxic gases, USGS officials confirm that there is currently no immediate threat to life or infrastructure in surrounding areas.
