Here Are the Five Stages of Today's Total Solar Eclipse
Briefly

Millions of people are expected to watch the event, the last chance to see a total solar eclipse in the contiguous United States until 2044. The eclipse will pass through 15 states, with Texas being the entry point and Maine the exit.
The solar eclipse will have five major stages: partial eclipse beginning, 'first contact' as the eclipse starts, 'second contact' and totality, third contact as the eclipse ends, and partial eclipse ends. Each stage offers unique phenomena like Baily's Beads and Shadow Bands for observers.
Baily's Beads, Shadow Bands, and the Diamond Ring phenomena occur during the eclipse. Baily's Beads are small light beads visible just before totality. Shadow bands are rapid light/dark bands before totality, and the Diamond Ring is a bright spot resembling a diamond ring.
