Chance of heatwaves in India rising with climate change
Briefly

India is experiencing a heatwave with temperatures close to 50°C, the third year of such high temperatures. Climate change is amplifying these extreme events, making them more likely and hotter.
Every heatwave globally is being intensified and made more probable by climate change. The World Weather Attribution initiative revealed that climate change made extreme temperatures in India 45 times more likely.
Intense heatwaves are projected to become more frequent with the current warming trends. These events are expected to start earlier and linger longer into the season.
