Are auroras coming back?
Briefly

Region 3664, now known as region 3697, has significantly decayed since facing Earth in early May, affecting the spectacle of auroras. Moderate geomagnetic storm levels possibly occur from May 31 to June 1, with a G2 level that may bring small disruptions, visible auroras seen as far south as New York and Idaho.
Auroras result from geomagnetic storms triggered by solar events like a coronal mass ejection (CME). The X1.4 flare associated with Region 3697 is expected to impact Earth's magnetic field late on May 31 into early June 1.
Despite upcoming alignment with Earth, conditions may not favor a repeat of May's events. CMEs, like the one from Region 3697, expand widely and rapidly, potentially affecting Earth even when not precisely aimed at it.
