Yankees Mailbag: Shutout concerns and the fifth-starter debate redux
Briefly

It's certainly a worrying trend, and as I noted earlier in the week the 2023 team got blanked more often later in the year, meaning that this year's team is on pace to eclipse them by the summer - safe to say, that's not ideal... the lack of power from a team constructed to hit homers. They're tied for 11th in dingers and 15th overall in runs scored, but there's a margin of just two blasts between sixth place and 18th... so it's safe to say they've been very middle of the pack so far.
For now, it's just relying on adjustments from their starters... they've had 25 at-bats with the bases loaded this year and come up with a grand total of ... six hits. To be fair, they're actually not that bad compared to the rest of the league here (ninth in RBI, 12th in OPS), and they've worked the most bases-loaded walks, but it's one of those situations where the failures stand out in your mind way more than the successes.
