Yankees 8, Blue Jays 3: Stanton's slam drives Bombers to 8-2 start
Briefly

No one in the Yankees lineup needed a big moment this weekend more than Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton mashed a grand slam to help carry the Yankees to an 8-3 win, polishing off a third consecutive series victory to begin 2024.
Luis Gil had a second solid-albeit short-showing in his role as a fifth starter, lasting 4.1 innings, striking out eight, tagging with two earned runs, while facing challenges with umpire calls.
It took the first at-bat for the Yankees for home-plate umpire Angel Hernández to put his stamp on the game. With Torres stepping outside the box, a pitch was thrown, catching Torres off guard as strike three was called.
Luis Gil matched his counterpart well initially but found trouble in the third inning, visibly upset with umpire calls. Despite facing challenges, Gil managed to overcome the bases-loaded situation through strikeouts.
