There's just something about West Coast trips that lead to some weird baseball being played... there's been some funky stuff that happens late at night when the majority of folks over on the East Coast are already asleep that leads to some frustrating losses.
The Yankees have been bitten by this curse lately, dropping their second game in a row due to some defensive miscues and a late collapse.
