Jeter Downs, once a top 100 prospect, was released by the Yankees after passing through waivers and signed with Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball.
Despite decent Triple-A stats, Downs never got called up by the Yankees despite their infield challenges, like injuries to key players. Instead, the club acquired Jazz Chisholm from the Marlins.
Downs struggled to meet expectations after the 2020 Mookie Betts and David Price trade. Given limited ML opportunities, he aims to explore his potential in Japan for a fresh start.
