The Mets designated Julio Teheran for assignment, calling up Dedniel Nunez to replace him and planning to promote Jose Butto when the 15-day window of his option to minors passes.
There was a missed opportunity when Tylor Megill went on the IL as they could have called up Jose Butto under a clause that allows recalling for a player placed on the IL, avoiding the Teheran situation.
Teheran's signing was a chance with very low odds of working out, seen as a positive to cut ties early. Now the focus is on future decisions for underperforming players.
