The 67-year-old Chicago native was loved by the Bulls players and remained loyal to head coach Billy Donovan but he has family in New York and was likely excited by the prospect of contributing to a Knicks team that was just one win shy of making a conference final.
Bringing in a coach who has championship experience and is beloved by his players should be looked at as another upgrade for a Knicks team looking to take the next step to becoming a true contender.
