An arbitrator ruled in Netflix's favor in a dispute with director Carl Erik Rinsch, awarding the company nearly $9 million in damages for a science-fiction series that was never aired.
Rita Miller, the arbitrator, ruled that Mr. Rinsch squandered the production money by going on a spending spree with luxury purchases, none of which were deemed necessary for the show's production.
