Met Police boss sacked over drugs test launches appeal

Former Met Police Cdr Julian Bennett was sacked for failing to provide a urine sample for a drugs test after being accused of smoking cannabis. He appealed against the gross misconduct finding and his dismissal, citing concerns about the test results due to using CBD for facial palsy.
Although Bennett offered to resign immediately instead of providing the sample, his refusal was deemed a breach of honesty and integrity by the disciplinary panel. His lawyers argued that the panel wrongly found him guilty of a lack of integrity that was not part of the original accusation.
