Rooftop bar ditched from revamped Lewisham library and reopening date delayed
Briefly

Damien Egan, ex-mayor of Lewisham, initially proposed a rooftop bar for the library's refurbishment. However, due to budget constraints and structural issues, that idea is now scrapped.
The refurbished library will now house a business hub instead of a rooftop bar, with completion expected in May 2026, pushed back from the initial early 2026 target.
The library's renovation is part of a wider £24 million investment plan for Lewisham town centre, funded by £19 million from the former Conservative government's Levelling Up fund.
Improvements to the area surrounding the library include better lighting, CCTV, and new parks, as part of an effort to enhance community spaces and infrastructure.
