New center to tackle health disparities affecting LGBTQ community
Briefly

Discrimination against LGBTQ people contributes to poorer health outcomes. The LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence, led by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, aims to address these disparities through research and support.
"Just 1% of NIH-funded research is dedicated to LGBTQ health," says Brittany Charlton, the founding director of the LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence. Despite LGBTQ individuals being 1 in 10 in the U.S., more research is crucial.
NIH recognized LGBTQ individuals as a health disparities population in 2016, prompting more research. The LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence commits to deepening research and supporting existing studies in LGBTQ health.
