Istanbul celebrates Pride despite ban and arrests
Briefly

Over 100 attendees celebrated Pride despite the crackdown by switching continents - between the 'European' and 'Asian' sides of the city - to avoid police.
In response to the government's ban and actions, organizers moved the event from the European side of the city to the Suadiye neighborhood on the Asian side.
Police were out in force shutting down Taksim Square and Istikial Avenue, the traditional location of the Pride festivities.
Last year, an estimated 113 people were detained by Turkish police for participating in the Pride march, according to Human Rights Watch.
