Only 28% of American adults believe same-sex relations are almost always wrong, down from 72% in 1985. 14% would be very upset if their child came out as gay or lesbian, down from 64%.
Support for job anti-discrimination protections for gays and lesbians increased to 77% from 51%. However, when asked about transgender people, acceptance lagged behind.
Two-thirds believe laws should protect transgender access to gender-affirming care for adults, but only half said the same for kids. 42% believe being transgender is 'just a phase' for children.
