Shailene Woodley to star in new Janis Joplin biopic
Briefly

Shailene Woodley has been tapped to play the rock icon Janis Joplin in a new biopic, marking the first time a film has been dedicated to her story.
"California meant so much to Janis Joplin - from the stoops of San Francisco to the wooden walls of Sunset Sound, the state became the stage upon which she explored not just the world of music, but the world of her vibrant humanity," Woodley expressed her excitement in referencing Joplin's connection to California.
Numerous filmmakers have tried to create a Joplin biopic, with previous announcements leading to many projects getting scrapped or stuck in development hell.
The 1979 film The Rose, although not a direct biopic about Joplin, serves as the closest depiction of her life and influence in rock music.
