André 3000 has released New Blue Sun, the instrumental album he suddenly announced this week.
While André 3000 has appeared as a guest contributor on multiple other artists' records and reunited Outkast for shows with Big Boi, it's obviously notable that the musician's first solo album this late into his recording career after Outkast stopped making albums is a flute-centric full-length of improvised instrumentals.
"It's not like I don't try or it's not like I have a lot of these songs just sitting-I have songs but it's not like rap things that I really feel happy about sharing," André 3000 told NPR's Rodney Carmichael on All Songs Considered. "And really, that's the most important part. I have to feel happy about sharing it. That's why New Blue Sun was something that I realized, whoa, I really want people to hear it. I really want to share it."
