Burns expected Chimaev to struggle with a difficult weight cut and noted Sean Strickland’s strong ground skills, including training partners who could not submit him. After Strickland defeated Chimaev to win the middleweight title, Burns said Chimaev suffered a heart attack in the second round and linked it to the weight cut. Burns pointed to Chimaev’s unusual behavior on the scale and to a wrestling-to-guard reversal early in the second round. Dana White later said Chimaev plans to move to light heavyweight, and Burns identified a Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa matchup as the next fight to make.
