Most of Joshua Tree National Park's millions of visitors pass right by the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. And the preserve's caretakers prefer it that way.
Wong estimates that the preserve sees between 30,000 and 40,000 visitors each year, compared with over 3 million annual visitors at nearby Joshua Tree National Park.
We embrace that faded, not very attractive sign, and we jokingly say that we're standing on the side of the road going, 'Joshua Tree? Keep on going.'
