Bromley Council announced plans to build a new archive and museum store for housing the borough's museum and art collection at a cost of 3.9 million. The one-storey facility will be situated within a depot in Priory Gardens, Orpington, replacing the current museum and art store. Access to the archive will be restricted to special events and by appointment for residents at the Bromley Central Library, while existing mature trees will be preserved. A petition against the project has collected over 1,800 signatures, urging funds to support community enhancement instead.
The new one-storey archive facility would cost around 3.9 million to construct and measure 630m, located within a depot in Priory Gardens, Orpington.
Bromley residents will be able to view the archive’s contents by request and appointment at the new Bromley Central Library, with public accessibility limited to special events.
Cllr Yvonne Bear emphasized the importance of preserving local heritage, stating that the plans ensure vital relics remain available to residents long into the future.
A petition opposing the archive project has gained over 1,800 signatures, urging the investment of funds into community-enriching projects that support local businesses.
