Overton Grange School has introduced Quinly, an AI chatbot designed to support students grappling with anxiety, exploitation, or emotional distress. Developed by SaferSpace using OpenAI's technology, Quinly serves as a "digital signpost," providing guidance and reassurances without replacing traditional care. The chatbot encourages students to seek help from organizations like Childline and the Samaritans. It addresses the rising concerns around child safety and mental health, amidst alarming statistics on child abuse and gang involvement. Headteacher Chris McNab emphasized Quinly's role as a supportive, accessible tool in the school's pastoral care system, especially for those who struggle to reach out directly.
Quinly is not a replacement for real care. It's just a way to help children take the first step when they feel stuck.
Quinly provides an accessible, supportive first step. It's not a gimmick. It's a meaningful addition to our pastoral care.
