San Francisco Reports Decline in Drug Overdose Deaths So Far This Year | KQED
Briefly

Colfax and other public health officials introduced a new pilot program aimed at improving medication access for unhoused individuals seeking addiction treatment overnight. The Night Navigation Team conducts outreach between 8 p.m. and midnight, setting up telehealth consultations with on-call doctors who can prescribe medications like buprenorphine.
Residents accepting treatment receive accommodations to begin recovery, staying in locations like the Adante Hotel. Rooms previously designated for emergencies provide shelter, and case managers help plan for the residents' transition after a week, offering support services and access to prescriptions and treatment programs.
The pilot program, initiated in March, conducted 173 telehealth consultations, with 134 prescriptions for buprenorphine. Around 33% of individuals obtained and picked up these medications, showcasing the program's impact on improving medication access and treatment availability.
