Medical card holders face a shortage of dentists under the scheme, with 252 fewer practitioners compared to last year, leaving just over 800 to service the entire country.
Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Cork city, north Dublin, Cavan, and Monaghan are among the areas experiencing the biggest decline in scheme practitioners over the past year.
