Legislators and other elected officials got used to the fact that we weren't in their face anymore, or we weren't even showing up... they don't really want reporters - especially those with hard questions - to come.
The pandemic allowed a lot of us to do our jobs at home, and it can be very comfortable... But you need to be in the weeds of things to get the real story.
