DOJ Sues TikTok, Accuses Social Platform Of Illegally Collecting Data From Children
Briefly

The Justice Department is suing TikTok and its owner, ByteDance, alleging illegal collection of data from American children. The complaint states TikTok made it easy for children to create accounts, violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
TikTok is accused of allowing children to bypass age restrictions by creating accounts through Google and Instagram. Additionally, the app allegedly ignored parental requests to delete accounts, with Kids Mode collecting data on underage users.
The DOJ expressed concerns about TikTok's continued data collection on children despite a court order. Acting Associate Attorney General Benjamin Mizer emphasized the importance of protecting children's privacy rights and honoring parents' efforts.
Apart from the data collection lawsuit, TikTok also faces a legal challenge regarding selling to a non-Chinese company by the D.C. appeals court. Failure to comply may lead to a ban on TikTok in the U.S.
