Reyes had been playing winter league ball, but his agent JD Ozuna released a statement on Instagram explaining that Reyes will sit out of remaining games while negotiations are in the final stages.
Reyes has hit only .217/.268/.356 with 16 homers in 538 PA since the start of the 2022 season, while striking out over a third of the time.
Rather than deal with the uncertainty of another minor league contract, Reyes will instead head to Japan on a guaranteed contract and in search of a fresh start to his career.
