Transport for London announced that the scrappage scheme for vehicles not meeting Ultra Low Emission Zone standards will close in three weeks, supporting 54,000 people with £186 million allocated.
Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed pride in the scrappage scheme, the largest in the UK, highlighting its role in encouraging Londoners to switch to cleaner vehicles.
TfL's director, Christina Calderato, noted the 'enthusiastic take up' of the scrappage scheme, but indicated that demand has decreased as most needing support have already applied.
The scheme provided financial incentives for scrapping older vehicles, offering up to £2,000 for cars and £7,000 for vans, which has supported numerous individuals and charities in London.
