Pouria Zeraati, a presenter at London-based Iran International, was stabbed in the leg Friday afternoon and is in stable condition at a hospital.
London's Metropolitan Police Service said Zeraati's occupation triggered the counterterrorism probe, though the motivation for the attack remains unclear.
Adam Baillie from Iran International described the stabbing as hugely frightening, the channel's first physical attack despite past threats.
