Two people taken to hospital following explosion in Co Down

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed they sent two appliances from Bangor Fire Station, one appliance from Newtownards Fire Station and one appliance from Whitla Fire Station. They said firefighters using breathing apparatus and gas monitors inspected the site. The spokesperson confirmed the incident is being treated as accidental.
Firefighters were called to reports of an explosion at a bungalow on Dakota Avenue, Newtownards. Two casualties were out of the property prior to Firefighters arriving and were treated by NIFRS, Air Ambulance NI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) at the scene. One casualty was transferred to hospital by NIAS.
Meanwhile, a PSNI spokesperson said: "At this stage, it is not believed that anyone has been seriously injured." The public should avoid the area at this time.
NIAS despatched one Emergency Ambulance Crew, one Ambulance Officer and one Rapid Response Paramedic to the incident. The Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board was also tasked to attend. Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, two patients were taken to Ulster Hospital.
