Archaeologists recently uncovered 317 skeletons and remnants of St. Aldate's Church while excavating the University of Gloucestershire's City Campus, unexpectedly revealing a historical burial ground. The church, dating back to the Middle Ages and demolished in the mid-1650s, had not been anticipated by the archaeologists. They found approximately 83 brick-lined burial vaults along with numerous post-medieval remains in the courtyard. This discovery sheds light on the area's significant historical context, once covered by a department store, and is part of ongoing construction efforts set to complete in 2023.
