A performance at Shakespeare's Globe had to be abandoned after a flare fired from a nearby bridge landed inside the open-air theatre. Emergency measures were taken, moving people indoors until police declared it safe.
Witnesses reported numerous fireworks and flares set off from Southwark Bridge and Millennium Bridge, believed to be from Algerian football fans celebrating, with one audience member describing 'an object fall through the roof - and into the crowd'.
