GCSE top grades down on last year as educational inequality widens

This year, 21.8% of UK GCSE entries were awarded the top grades, a slight decrease from last year’s 22%, yet still higher than the 2019 figure of 20.8%.
The overall pass rate for grades 1/G or above stood at 97.9%, marking the lowest statistic seen for nearly two decades, down from 98.0% last year.
